The Insite Instrumentation Group Model 3150 portable suspended solids analyser is a unique system that combines advanced electronics with a solid-state, optical sensor. Model 3150 is a multi-range analyser designed for the measurement of suspended solids in aqueous solutions. The microprocessor-based electronics of the analyser provide a high degree of flexibility and easy of use. Data logging and the ability to download the data directly to a computer are standard features.

The sensor operates on the principle of single gap light absorption as the means of determining the concentration of suspended solids. The sensor was specifically designed for solids concentration typically found in aeration basins (1000-5000 mg/l) and RAS streams (7000-20000 mg/l) of water treatment plants. There are independent calibration points for each. The sensor utilizes an infrared emitter to minimize color effects and compensates for emitter variations due to temperature by measuring source brightness.
